Obituary for Alice Elizabeth Barrett (Luffman)
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, and aunt on September 24, 2022, surrounded by her devoted and loving family at the Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion in Carbonear.
Alice was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Lawrence Barrett, her parents Harold and Elsie Luffman, brothers Bill, Ray and Jim Luffman, her mother and father-in-law, Joseph and Minnie Barrett and brother-in-law: Kevin Ivey.
Leaving to mourn with many wonderful memories are her only son Calvin (Carol Ann) who she cherished dearly, her two grandchildren; Amanda (Geoffrey) Smart and Matthew (Krista), and her two great grandchildren; Lindsey and Aaron Smart, two loving sisters; Alfreda Ivey and Grace (June) Forward and her brother Harve (Mary) Luffman, as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews.
Alice was a quiet woman, she enjoyed the simple things in life; she loved September and spent hours on the hill berry picking. She always had a full line of clothes out and loved to watch the news. There was nothing you could tell her she didn’t already know. Alice always enjoyed tending to fire, no one could stoke the fire like Alice.
In her later years, Alice enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her sisters. She enjoyed listening to music, dancing and she never missed a “time”.
The family would like to acknowledge and extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Callingwood Downs Retirement Residence, Clarkes Beach, and the Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion in Carbonear for the exceptional care provided to Alice.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at SLADE'S FUNERAL HOME, 488 CONCEPTION BAY HIGHWAY, SPANIARD’S BAY on Wednesday: 10 A.M.- 9 P.M. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted or donations may be made in her loving memory to the Alzheimer’s Society.
The funeral service will take place at 2 P.M. on Thursday, September 29, 2022 from Holy Redeemer Anglican Church, Spaniard’s Bay. Interment will follow at Greenhead Anglican Cemetery, Spaniard’s Bay.
