She also leaves to mourn her siblings, Muriel Faulkner of Gander, Mary Donahue of Appleton, Art Oates (Elsie) of Kelligrews, Frank Oates (Bernice) of Victoria, Shirley Oates (Les) of Carbonear and Carson Oates of Victoria. Bernice is predeceased by her husband of almost 58 years, Hedley Reid who passed away on May 12th of this year. Also, predeceased by her parents Blanche and David Oates of Carbonear.

Mom was known for her kindness and sweet personality, she was a very private person. Everyone who knew her had a kind word to say about her. She worked at Fortune Restaurant for about 30 years with Kei and Stella, she thoroughly enjoyed her time spent there with them. She was a devoted wife to Hedley and helped him through his years of illness and always by his side. She was known to put everyone else ahead of herself.

We would like to thank all the staff at Carbonear General Hospital for your care of our Mom. Thank you Dr. Howse for your time and care of our mom and your kind words to her. The staff on the 6th floor where she spent her final weeks, we thank you so much for your thoughtfulness and gentle care given to our mom. We are so grateful for all you have done to help us through this. Extra special thank you to Aunt Shirley and Aunt Bernice, you two were angels for us amid this terrible time. When we couldn’t be there you 2 stayed with her and chatted and I know she absolutely loved that and for that we are forever thankful. You were both the support that we all needed, we can’t thank you enough.

As expressions of sympathy we would like for anyone to donate to a charity of one’s choice in her memory.

There will be no service at this time, cremation has taken place. We will have a private celebration of life for both of our parents at a later date.
