It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brian Joseph Bishop, on March 23, 2022, at 39 years of age. Leaving us broken-hearted, but with a lifetime of memories that will never be forgotten.
He is predeceased by his grandparents: Ernest & Stella Bishop, and William & Agnes Curran, as well as many special aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Leaving to mourn with precious memories are: his wife Natasha; children Carlie and Owen; parents Wayne and Agnes Bishop; parents-in-law Fraser and Pam Howell; brother Wayne (Kerry); sister-in law Kayla (Chris); brother-in-law Ryan (Penney); niece Isabella; nephews Joshua, Ethan and Bennett; and a very large circle of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Brian was an incredible father, husband, son, brother, and friend. He was never one to back down from a challenge. He faced everything head on, and without complaint. The courage and strength he showed during his lengthy battle with cancer was second to none. He loved his family more than anything. His priority was always ensuring that they were looked after, even in his final days.
Brian graduated from the Nautical Science program at Marine Institute in 2006. His career allowed him to travel to many places, aboard many ships, where he made many special friends along the way. One of the happiest days of his life was when he completed his Master Mariner ticket, at the age of 30. Although his love of the sea has never wavered, Brian has worked ashore for the past ten years, as a Vessel Superintendent with Canship Ugland Ltd. His colleagues at Canship were more like family than coworkers to him, and his work brought so much meaning to his life, especially as he struggled with his health over the past three years.
The family extends a sincere thank you to his family doctor, Dr. Lake, his oncologist, Dr. Armstrong, and pharmacist, Dr. Edwards; as well as the many nurses and physicians who cared for him while he was undergoing treatment at the Cancer Clinic and during his stay on 4 North A at the Health Sciences Centre.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 28th from 10:30-12:00 pm, 2:00 - 5:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm, as well as March 29th from 10:30-1:30 pm at Slade’s Funeral Home, Upper Island Cove. The funeral service will take place on March 29th, at 2:00 at St. Peter’s Anglican Church and cemetery, Upper Island Cove.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted or donations in his memory can be made to the Cancer Care Foundation.
