Obituary for Donald Wesley Spencer

Donald Wesley Spencer passed on as he wished, surrounded by the love of his family in the comfort of his own home, on March 8, 2022. He was 60 years young.

Donald (aka Don, Donnie, Dad, Poppin, Bruddy) came into this world on May 6, 1961, at the Grace Hospital in St. John’s, NL.

Don was loved wholeheartedly by his entire family: his parents Berdena and Wesley Spencer; sisters ‘Kimmy’ Spencer and Renee Porter (Richard, Emily, Kaitlyn, Ben). He was married to the love of his life and partner in crime, Jacqueline Spencer (Edwards). His legacy continues through his adoring daughter Stephanie (Jeff), and cherished grandson Weston Spencer. Beloved by Makala (Kevin) and treasured grandchildren Avery and Gabe. He was also admired by a large circle of buddies, numbering too many to name.

A brilliant businessman and a big part of his community, Don continued a proud family business, and grew his own ventures through Wescal Sports and Great Canadian Dollar Stores across the province.

Don was the type of guy who never went anywhere without making a friend or lending a hand to those in need. He had a huge impact on many lives, thanks to his incredibly kind heart and generous spirit.

Filled with ingenuity and curiosity, Don was a natural problem solver who loved a project. From home renos to car mechanics, he approached everything in life with a keen eye for detail, a solid plan, and an appreciation for a job done right.

He was, without a doubt, the type of man who could put an arse in a cat. He also took the time to teach, and learn by, everyone he met along the way. Don was a true Trekky ( live long and prosper) and muscle car fanatic.

Gone too soon, Don (Dad) will be greatly missed by many. As his family, we are so lucky to have had the time, memories, and love he shared with us during his 60 years on earth. He had a full and incredible life.

A funeral service will take place at 3:00pm on Friday, March 18th, 2022 at Central United Church in Bay Roberts. Masks are mandatory.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities Newfoundland and Labrador or Dr. H Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre.

“It’s no time to get faint hearted now.”
