Obituary for Frances Delaney
On July 16, 2020, surrounded by love, Frances Delaney passed away at her family home at the age of 68 years old.
Frances leaves behind a large circle of family and friends whom she loved dearly. Her main thing in life was to have fun and no matter the situation including facing her own death her motto was “May as well laugh as it is to cry about it”.
Frances was well known for “Not knowing what she would say next” and for “Being one of a kind”. Her extensive vocabulary was more than highly proficient at knowing more curse words than most people learned in a lifetime and she used them on a regular basis. It didn’t matter to her what she said or to whom she said it to – a family member, a friend (including her friend who was a Reverend), a colleague, her medical team, a resident she was caring for or a complete stranger - she always made people laugh.
It was the school of hard knocks and as kids we were told many times how she had to walk to school in blizzards, how she had to share a bed with 7 of her 18 siblings and how lucky she was on one occasion to own her own dress as a kid and not having to share it with her sisters. Guess she was letting us know just how spoiled we really were.
She was a master cook in the kitchen – although we realize now that she believed in overcooking her meat - guess she wanted to make sure her family wouldn’t get sick from salmonella. She was the best soup, bread and touton maker and when she had time she could whip up a mean dessert.
Frances left 3 bedrooms full of dressy clothing and shoes that she never wore – her favourite articles were old t-shirts and track pants. She also loved to have different coloured curtains and duvets for each bedroom for each season and a collection of Corelle Dinnerware and tablecloths /runners for any occasion “just in case”. In all seriousness – (something Frances wasn’t) she was a dedicated wife and best friend to her husband Edward of 51 years and a devoted and loving mother to her 6 children – Keith (Lori), Karl, Kelly Jane (Ryan), David (Pattilynn), Doris and Kevin (Melanie). She adored her children and the 100’s of children that her and her husband fostered throughout the years. Her most beloved and treasured role was as “Nanny Bossy” to her 20 grandchildren Matthew, Noelle, Casey, Hanna, Abbey, Riley, Mia, Olivia, Austin, Ella, David, Dakoda, Dallas, Gracie, Chloe, Faith, Jessica, Kaitlyn, Peyton and Anderson and her 9 great grandchildren Aiden, Leland, Paige, Jack, Connor, Keegan, Owen, Clara and Damien.
Pre-deceased by her parents Arch and Jane (nee Bartlett) Linthorne; brothers Joe (Anne), Archibald, James (Loretta), Jack, Robert, Darrell, Fredrick (Margaret); Sisters Sybil (Glendon), Margaret, Ada (Michael).
Leaving to mourn with many fond and loving memories, her brother Tom (Shirley); sisters Elizabeth (Tom), Hilda (Jack), Mary (Danny), Loretta (Willie), Bonnie (Danny); brother in law’s Joe, Walter (Frances), Mike (Joan), Sam; sister in law ‘s Carol, Maisie, Betty (Melvyn); a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues and finally but not least two of her closest friends Catherine Greenland (AKA Granny Kit) and Fredricka Farrell.
Frances will always be remembered for her vivacious personality, her tenacity, wit, charm, her zest for life and her undying love and compassion for those around her and those she cared for. Frances made everyone feel welcomed, loved, and worthy no matter their walk -in life and she will continue to remain a bright light through our darkest days.
Her family would like to thank her medical team who has helped support her through her illness especially her Oncologist Dr. Renee Lester, Radiation Physician Dr. Kamron, her chemotherapy nurse Leslie, her Family Physician Dr. Jason Efford, clinic nurse Kimberly Efford, the staff of Avalon Drugs – Tony, Wanda and Danielle and her palliative care nurse Charlotte Bidgood. Thank you to everyone who supported her or her family, big or small, over the last three years and through her most recent and very short cancer diagnosis – we can’t thank you all enough. A special thank you to her sister Mary who for the last three years has supported her in every way imaginable – she would not have survived without you and neither would we.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are welcome to drop by the Delaney home throughout the day on July 25th and July 26th to pay their respects to Frances and her family. A Celebration of Life or as she put it a “Garden Party” will be held at a later date next summer when we can share inappropriate stories, music and food and carry on her legacy of being “the life of the party”.
