TYYNELA, Laina (Lynn) Tellervo – Laina went to be with her Heavenly Father on August 31, 2022 just short of 92 years of age.
During her final days Laina’s son John, daughter Caroline and son-in-law Stephen, experienced the warmth of Laina’s touch and the strength of her spirit. Jaakko (Jack) preceded his beloved wife by five years after almost six decades of marriage. Laina was the eldest child of Finnish immigrants (Arvo and Laimi Rinne) who raised Laina and her sisters Aila and Dorothy (predeceased) and brothers Bill and Rodney, in Haliburton, Ontario. The siblings share stories of their mother Laimi working as a cook in the logging camps. Laina was born in one of the camps, extremely premature and weighing less than 3 pounds. Laina was kept warm in a butter box on the wood-burning cookstove. Few would have guessed this fragile premature baby would grow up to be the first in the family to venture out alone at the age of 16 to the big city of Toronto. Laina’s Finnish determination and perseverance – “sisu” – were with her through to the final moments.
Her 92 years brought happiness to the many she touched day-to-day by her endearing smile and generosity and through socializing over cups of coffee or by sharing her lovely soprano voice. Music was never far from Laina’s heart. Laina’s children, especially Scott (predeceased) and John, were inspired by Laina’s lifelong love for music.
Laina is fondly remembered by friends and staff at Shag Rock Manor who loved her dearly. Laina’s beautiful smile and sweet hello remain with all who were fortunate enough to greet her.
A graveside service will take place in Ontario in the presence of family members.
