Max was born in Port de Grave and grew up in a close, happy family in Shearstown. He worked side by side with his father in the family business for many years. Max was a bus driver for the school district as well as working for 27 years with the Town of Bay Roberts in a number of roles. A hard-working individual all his life, Max retired at the age of 65.

He was a member of the Orange Young Britons, L.O.L. #81, the Royal Black, and the Society of United Fishermen. A lifetime Montreal Canadians fan, he enjoyed and excelled at hockey with the Shearstown Tigers and later became a minor hockey coach.

Max was an avid outdoorsman who lived life large. Whether it be with his buddies on the barrens with their setter dogs, in a boat or in the cabin on Skipper’s Pond, on the ATV for a run and a boil up or placing a bet on his favorite horse, Max certainly enjoyed a good time.

A man of quick wit and great humor, Max was known to play many a joke on his friends, and as a result he was on the receiving end of many a rebuttal.
Max and Betty were no strangers to the open road. Camping trips, road trips and visits with family were the norm. Anyone who entered their home was treated with great hospitality. Max enjoyed a good game of cards, a good laugh, a good feed and a good story.

His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Hearing their stories always brought a smile to his face. Wade, Gloria and Krista continue to carry on their father’s hard work ethic and his outlook on life.

Max and Betty spent 59 wonderful years together, creating a loving and caring environment for their family. We will all miss him so much but we have some grand stories and a lifetime of happy memories so his spirit will always live on.

Max will be especially missed by his furry friend and companion, Tiger.

As Max would say, “Thanks for coming.”

Cremation has taken place. Visitation is being held at Slade’s Funeral Home, L.T. Stick Drive, Bay Roberts on: Wednesday: 2-5 P.M. & 7-9 P.M.
