Obituary for Mike G. Fahey

Mr. Michael Gerard Fahey passed peacefully away in Riverhead Harbour Grace, on Friday, September 18, 2020 at the age of 71 years.

Growing up in Riverhead, Newfoundland, Mike was always active in the community and loved sports. Soccer, softball and especially hockey. For a time he was a Boy Scout leader and started the Riverhead Minor Hockey Association. As a successful manager of the KFC’s it was common to see him driving the boys around to get to various sporting events in the back of the KFC van. They knew his as “Flakey”.

Mike was always quick with a joke and had a positive attitude toward life. At one point he was part of a comedy team - Fellers from “Ome” that did comedy acts at the local clubs. He will be remembered for his ever popular Newfoundland Joke and Recipe Books “Jokes from the Rock”. Always quick to help anyone in need, he didn’t like to see anyone go without and was willing to share what he had.

Mike worked at various jobs all across Canada. From as far north as the Yukon, from St. John’s, NL to Haidi Gwaii, BC and many provinces in between. His main area of expertise was that as a Scrap Metal Manager. He was always on the move and enjoyed seeing the diversity and splendor that Canada offers. Along the way he never forgot his roots and his love for Riverhead. Newfoundland was always with him and when he was ready to retire he came “ome”.
