His parents were Ralph and Maggie Dicker. Parents-in-law were Max and Pearl Ash.

Winston was born on Flat Island, Bonavista Bay, where the Dicker family had lived since the mid 1850’s. At the age of 14, his family moved to St. John’s and then Mount Pearl. His Bishop Field College yearbook called him “the quiet man” a trait that stayed with him all his life. He became very involved in sports especially baseball, where he excelled as a pitcher. On December 27th, 1965, he married Joan, the love of his life for over 57 years. He was an avid outdoorsman - hunting, fishing, hiking to a favourite trouting pond. Everyone knew his love for Labs –Blackie, Real and Henry. As a parent, he spent winters in the hockey stadium and summers on soccer fields. His greatest passion was a boat on salt water. After 30 years in shirt and tie at an office desk job, he obtained a professional fishing license. Alone in his boat with the sun just rising and hauling lobster pots was his idea of a dream job.

Retirement meant many years of travel for them, a summer home in Burnside, boating and fishing in Bonavista Bay with many trips to the re-settled Flat Island of his childhood.

A loved husband, dad and grandpa and friend to many.

A life well lived.

Thank you to Dr. Roger Butler and the Dementia Home Care program and to the staff on 4 South of the Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion in Carbonear for their compassion and care during Winston’s final days.
