Obituary for Winston Donald Mercer
It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of our brother & uncle, Winston Donald Mercer of Upper Island Cove at the Carbonear General Hospital on Friday, February 24, 2023. Winston was 74 years old.
He leaves to mourn his family:
Brothers Esau and wife Evelyn, Angus and wife Jessie; nephews and nieces and special friends Florence and Tony mercer; his homecare worker Georgina Clarke and her husband Chris; his best friends Lawrence Russell and Scott and his wife Lori Hudson in Labrador, also a large number of family and friends. Winston so enjoyed his winter trip to go dog sledding with Scott a few years ago.
Predeceased by:
Parents: John Jim and Ella Mercer; brothers: Edward, Harvey and wife Catherine, Eric and wife Faye and his three step brothers: Harold, Ken and Frank; Best friends: Val Slaney and neighbor Ches Stone.
Winston was a lifelong fisherman, going to Bolster’s Rock every summer with his father and mother.
Cremation has taken place. The family will be receiving relatives and friends at SLADE'S FUNERAL HOME, CRANES ROAD, UPPER ISLAND COVE on Tuesday: 2-5 P.M. & 7-8:30 P.M., In lieu of flowers, as expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in his loving memory to the Baccalieu Trail SPCA.
The Prayer Service will take place at 8:30 P.M. on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 from Slade’s Funeral Home, Upper Island Cove. Burial will take place at a later date. Rest in peace Winston. You will be sadly missed. God Bless.
